Duration: 1 day

This workshop is designed to provide fast-track learning for staff who need to be able to create IDEF0 compliant diagrams using iGrafx IDEF0. By the end of the workshop, delegates will be able to rapidly create and edit a range of IDEF0 diagrams and documents suitable for enterprise process re-engineering projects, systems analysis tasks and technical communication projects. Delegates will also assimilate skills associated with the diagramming capabilities of iGrafx FlowCharter.

The course material is divided into areas of discussion. Each topic incrementally builds on knowledge obtained in the previous section. During the lecture/discussion portion of each topic, students replicate the instructor's examples on their own computers. Lab exercises are used to reinforce concepts.

Course Outline

Topic 1 through 2: Creating IDEF0 Models
IDEF0 Model objects and Notation objects are reviewed. Students use the model Wizard to create IDEF0 diagrams. They start with the A-0 diagrams and work into more detailed diagrams. The students create and manage ICOMs as well as review general mechanisms for traversing a diagram efficiently.

Topic 3: Advanced IDEF0 Diagraming
Students are introduced to the IDEF0 Explorer to view, edit, and manage components. The IDEF design rules are reviewed as well as the iGrafx real-time validation of the rules. Students create, use, and manage FEO diagrams. They add Text and Glossary components to the diagram. The Node tree and Table of Contents (ToC) are used to quickly navigate the diagrams in the model.
IDEF0 allows for linking to non-IDEF0 objects. The students learn to create and modify links to files and Web pages.

Topic 4: Customizing the IDEF0 Environment
The IDEF0 model has various categories of properties to customize your implementation. The students learn to modify the Model, Diagram, Rules, and Font properties.
A Template is a special type of diagram used to create a unique environment. The students learn to create, modify, manage, and apply templates.

Topic 5: Input & Output
Students learn the mechanisms for moving data into and out of iGrafx products including printing components, importing FlowCharter, Visio®, and other non-iGrafx files, saving to a web page, and linking and embedding information with the standard Windows (OLE) functionality. The export of flowchart data to Word and Excel is also introduced.

Topic 6: Managing Data
iGrafx Process Central is a SQL based repository for iGrafx information. Students learn to store, query, and manage IDEF models in the Process Central repository.
