3 Key Questions Answered by Dr. Thomas Starke, Managing Director at Dr. Starke Management Systems

Are standards requirements also reflected in processes? Sure, they are. But how important is planning process management for auditors and process managers? We will address this question in our brief interview with Dr. Thomas Starke, Audit Expert and Managing Director at Dr. Starke Management Systems.

1) What is Dr. Starke Management Systems (DRSM)?

DRSM is an IT-oriented management consultancy. We have developed our own innovative product. the workflow-driven tool, Dashboard Central Enterprise. We also provide our customers with the iGrafx BPM platform, and offer installation, support, and customization from a single source. Our customers receive best practices BPM content as well as tailored, customer-specific training. We offer data management on customer-owned servers or in the cloud with locations throughout Germany. We have been in the market for more than 20 years and have been partners of iGrafx since 1997. All of our quality management and process organization projects have been successfully completed during this time using the iGrafx BPM Suite. Focusing on this suite of products, coupled with an innovative collaboration with iGrafx EMEA, has contributed to our lasting success.

2) One of your core competencies is audit management. What exactly is the subject of an audit?

An audit is a very important tool for managing a business. The result is a view from critical customers (internally and externally) on the effectiveness of the organization; the success or failure of a company depends directly on this. The effectiveness of an organization can be measured in different ways. It may be a product (item), a product group, or a complex product system (a car, a medical device or the like). It is also possible to audit processes (activities up to complete processes and entire process systems).

Requirements of standards (e.g., ISO 9001, 14001, 20000-1, 27001, 50001, etc.) and laws are reflected in products and processes. This means that the processes and products must meet the standards requirements. If compliance can be proven, certification by an accredited certification organization is possible. To prove compliance, audits are planned, carried out, and evaluated. The measures derived from deviations and identified remediations, need to be processed to provide an actionable and sustainable solution. The more complex an organization is, the more difficult it is to assess its process and products for compliance. Likewise, the requirements of different standards for processes are often incredibly complex. The auditors specially trained for auditing should be able to master these audit processes.

A good BPM system, like iGrafx, helps to definitively overview the complete business architecture for auditors and process managers. Relationships between processes, responsibilities (RACI), requirements, risks, etc., can be depicted and presented clearly. Additionally, the tool allows almost limitless scale, and as a result, DRSM AuditCentral helps to control the audit management of both small companies and large corporate structures.

3) Is there currently a successful customer project in Germany?

Our longtime customer Tropack Packmittel GmbH in Lahnau (Hessen) has been using iGrafx as a BPM tool and DRSM AuditCentral as a central audit tool for more than ten years. Here, audits according to ISO 9001 and VDA 6.3 as well as special audits regarding hygiene, DSGVO as well as 5S and security processes are managed.
Heiner Siering, Quality Manager at Tropack said “Without these tools, we would not be able to cope with our customers’ requirements! Customers always praise the professionalism of our audit and process management solution in connection with external audits in our company, and our management is really enthusiastic about these internal services.”
